Enjoy the scenic views of Lake Erie and its islands from the sky in World-War ll biplanes that have been fully restored. The instructor will show you the basics and then let you take control. Your instructor will customize your flight based on your interest level. This means the instructor can do loops, spins, and rolls if you wish to! He will perform as many or as little aerobatics as you desire.

The Put-in-Bay Biplane Rides are offered at the Put-in-Bay Airport on the southern tip of South Bass Island. These thrilling rides are a unique way to experience this beautiful region.

Put-in-Bay Biplane Rides Details

These rides are taken in beautifully restored World War II Biplanes with open cockpits. Flights can accommodate one or two passengers alongside the instructor/pilot. Soar through the clouds while also gazing at the stunning coastline of Lake Erie. Take in the views of Put-in-Bay, Middle Bass Island, Kelley’s Island, Port Clinton, and more!

Put-in-Bay is an incredible sight to behold from the air! The beautiful waters surround South Bass Island’s shores, and from up above you can see Perry’s Monument casting its shadow over the island. You’ll get a great view of the previously mentioned Middle Bass Island, as well as the privately-owned Rattlesnake Island, and you can see all the way back to the shore to Cedar Point if the weather is good.

Flight lessons in a biplane are really exciting. The instructor teaches you the basics and then you take over. There is nothing like flying your own plane and Put-in-Bay Biplane Rides makes this a reality!

For the daredevils, select the aerobatic thrills. The instructor can perform a variety of stunts to thrill even the most nonplussed among us. Rides are customized for each passenger’s preference so you get as many or as few tricks as you can handle.

The scenic rides are breathtaking. The biplane departs from the airport and expertly maneuvers the plane along the coastlines. Take in the surrounding islands, gaze at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial, and spy on Canada in the distance. There’s not much you can’t see from this high up.

Biplane Ride Rates

Reservations are not required for rides. Each ride is first-come, first-serve. With weather permitting, each ride is roughly $160 per quarter-hour.

Put-in-Bay Airport Details

Open year-round from dawn to dusk, the Put-in-Bay Airport services small aircraft arriving and departing the island. Paved and in excellent condition, the two runways remain unlit after dark. No departures accepted after dusk.

The airport also provides vending machines and restrooms. The Erie-Ottawa Regional Airport and Griffing Sandusky Airport offer fuel services. There are also charter services available at this airport including Island Air Taxi and Griffing Airlines. Put-in-Bay Helicopter Rides also flies from the airport.

Expect some light turbulence on approach when the wind exceeds 10 knots. Every plane must remain 1000 feet from Perry’s Victory and International Peace Monument. This 352 ft column is located 1.5 miles southwest of the field with an elevation of 942 MSL.

The Put-in-Bay Airport also hosts a series of events during the summer. The Put-in-Bay Road Race Reunion and Put-in-Bay 3W2 FLY-IN are two popular airport events.
