Island Beach Glass

Worn by water, renewed by the sea, sea glass is a made from both man and nature. Bottles, jars and glass carelessly discarded are tumbled by the ocean to form these colorful gems of the shore. These lovely collectible beach gems are vanishing due to plastics and recycling. Traditional gems (topaz, rubies, diamonds, emeralds, etc.) are made by nature and refined by man. Beach glass is originally made by man (bottles and jars) but refined by nature to become smooth frosty beach glass.

Beach glass begins as bottles & glass that get tossed on the shore, broken, and then tumbled smooth by the waves and currents. Nature acts like a big rock tumbler recycling our pollution and creating works of art. It can take 7-10 years in a constantly volatile environment for glass to become beach glass. A quality piece of beach glass has no shiny spots, is well frosted and has smooth tactile edges.

Exhibitions

Jessie’s Jewelry has been providing visitors with locally created wonders for many years. Jessie began selling jewelry of her own design in 2002 while sitting on the deck of The Wharfside. She was making jewelry for happy vactioners and exploring the island. Fifteen years later and more than five-thousand handmade pieces, Jessie shares the healing joy of gemstones found in the Lake Erie Islands.

Put-in-Bay’s summer-long exhibitions at various locations around the island may include live musical concerts such as Kid Rock. We also feature such genres as jazz, rock, folk, chamber music and performance art at our local bars and events. This, along with its reputation for fun and smooth island vibes, makes Put-in-Bay Island Art Galleries a destination spot on beautiful Lake Erie, a short ferry ride from Port Clinton and Sandusky.
