In the News…
We are all aware the census count is currently being conducted. While this procedure is primarily a people count, for the island it is so much more. As a resort community, we receive tax revenue based on the fact that no less than 62% of our housing units are seasonal. The actual percentage figure is verified by the census. It is critical that all our seasonal residents are accounted for.
It is especially important that you fill out your seasonal island residence form, even if you have completed and sent in a form from your permanent residence. You must be counted in both places. If you still have the census form associated with your island residence, fill it out and send it in.
1. On the census form, if you are a seasonal resident of the island:
• You place a zero (0) in question #1 (number of people)
• You write seasonal directly behind box #1
You are done and can send in the form.
If you have discarded the census form that was mailed to your island residence, you still have two other options to be counted as a seasonal resident.
2. Phone Call – the number to call is 1-844-330-2020
Let the agent know you want to be indicated as a seasonal resident. They will ask the appropriate questions. It takes less than 5 minutes.
3. Online is a little trickier but it is an option.
Go to my2020census.gov and click on Start Questionnaire.
It will require you to answer a few questions before it will let you submit your questionnaire.
Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated and will help us to receive the tax monies needed to maintain your police department and island services.
Deadline: September 30, 2020.
