Woody’s Harvest Fest • Oct. 5th
Woody’s Harvest Fest Scholarship Fundraiser Dinner will be held on Sunday, Oct 5th from Noon to 5 p.m. at the Goat Biergarten. Turkey dinners are $25 and benefit a scholarship for a graduating Put-in-Bay High School senior. The Historical Society and other non-profit organizations will be there with sale tables, plus island artists may be set up there, too. The historical society will be soliciting new memberships and selling memorial bricks. Everyone is welcome!

Conservancy Winter Bird Seed Sale
The Lake Erie Islands Conservancy is holding their Winter Bird Seed Sale with Titgemeiers feed and Garden Store again this fall! Order forms for cracked corn, sunflower seeds and various seed mixes can be found at www.lakeerieislandsconservancy.org or by calling Lisa Brohl at (419) 366-2087 or Kelly and Marty Faris at (419) 285-4772 or emailing at leiconservancy@gmail.com. We will take orders until November 1st with delivery before Thanksgiving. Not only will you be helping the birds throughout the winter, you’ll be helping the Conservancy raise much needed funds for all the important work happening throughout all the seasons!

Monument to Close for 2 Years!
Get To The Top Now!

Going to the top of Perry’s Victory & International Peace Memorial won’t be possible after this season due to major construction work on the upper and lower plazas. If you want to get to the top, starting October 3rd, Perry’s Monument will be open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., until October 27th when it closes, not just for the season, but for the 2026 and 2027 seasons as well. The beautiful Perry’s Visitors Center will remain open, and Park Rangers will be running programs and demonstrations and giving talks and informational events as always. Editor’s Note: at the time of print the Monument is temporarily closed due to the government shutdown.

Movie Night at The State Park
South Bass Island State Park is having its 5th annual Halloween Movie Night on Wednesday, October 8th at 7:30 p.m.! Bring your family, friends and appetite to celebrate the end of the 2025 season and the beginning of spooky season! South Bass Island State Park will be hosting its LAST Movie Night of the season alongside a campfire! Hot apple cider, s’mores supplies, cheesy potatoes, hot dogs and roasting forks will be provided so you may bring other items to roast. We will be playing “Casper” for its 30th anniversary! If the weather is bad, we will aim for the following night. We are also extending the Chili Cook-Off to the public. We are taking 10 entries. So, if you think you have the best chili on the island, let’s find out on Movie Night. The winner will take home a trophy as well as 2 FREE nights of camping! Look for flyers at the General Store, Hardware Store and Post Office for sign-up info.

Walking Tour of Duff Vineyard
The Put-in-Bay Township Park District will be sponsoring a guided walk as part of the Outdoor Hiking Challenge of the Park District of Ottawa County. On Saturday, October 4th, meet at the Duff Homestead Preserve parking area at 10 a.m. Walt Duff will be present to give a tour of the Duff Vineyard Preserve. We also will have the opportunity to walk the adjacent private property of Allen Duff that is in pollinator habitat with the Lake Erie Islands Conservancy with coreopsis in bloom.

I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to the entire PIB community for the support given to Empty Bowls by the Lake through the years. This year, I would especially like to thank the wonderful people from Arbor Inn B&B, Island Air Taxi, Jet Ski at the Bay, The Goat, Kayak the Bay, Miller Ferry, Mossbacks, E’s Golf Carts, Heineman Winery, Perry’s Cave & Butterfly House, The Boardwalk , Margaritas on the Rock, The Reel Bar, Local Color and the Sand Bar. Their generosity is going to help our nonprofit provide so many meals for the hungry this winter.

Alfred Parker’s Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

St. Paul’s Outdoor Pavilion Dedication
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and the family of Marguerite “Tommie” Thompson Caldwell cordially invite you to the dedication of the new outdoor pavilion on the church grounds, Saturday, October 18th at 1:00 p.m. The pavilion will be dedicated to the glory of God and in memory of Mrs. Caldwell, a native of Put-in-Bay and a former parishioner of St. Paul’s.
Tommie loved St. Paul’s and would be very thankful to be a part of its future, as well as the past, by assisting in the development of this new meeting space that will expand the church’s ministries and communal life. We hope you will join us for this joyful occasion.

Brad and Angie Ohlemacher from the Bird’s Nest celebrated their 10th Anniversary in Seville, Spain. Cliff Fulton and Brenda “Mermadi” Lind headed for Europe. While there, Rob and Dawn Stolph and Paul Jeris from the Island Club joined them. Simona Michael and Fred “Chef F” Futrell visited Niagara on the Lake and Niagara Falls in Canada. Dave and Garden Club president Sheri Murphy from Conlan Lane took a Danube cruise between Prague and Budapest. Brian & Justine Cultice from Cameo Pizza enjoyed a week in Maine. Al Duff from Mitchell Rd. was on a cruise to Iceland and Greenland.
