Get To The Top Now!
Anyone procrastinating about going to the top of Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial on Put-in-Bay shouldn’t wait much longer. The memorial, commonly known as Perry’s Monument, will be closed for a restoration project for the next two summers. But this season, there is still time to take a tour to the top of the 352-foot memorial for a unique view of the islands and Lake Erie. The restoration project will focus on the basement below the Monument and the plaza surrounding the entrance area. Perry’s Monument is the only international peace memorial within the U.S. National Park System. At 325 feet tall, it is taller than the Statue of Liberty. In comparison, it is smaller than the St. Louis Gateway Arch and the Washington Monument. It is the third tallest national monument in the country. Visits to the memorial plaza and rotunda are free, and tours to the observation deck, which is accessed by 37 steps and an elevator, cost $10 for ages 16 and older. Children 15 and younger are free.
