Another week of awesome music and of course Pirates Fest. The Chamber of Commerce on Put in Bay made up this event 18 years ago and it is one of the most popular weekends of the summer. Lots of real cannons, Pirate booths selling all kinds of stuff and even a few costume contests. Of course I will be dressed up and the house will be decorated up for the weekend. I hope to see you at Put in Bay soon. Big week ahead is the 250th Birthday of the USA. More about that in next weeks post

My Thoughts For The Week
At Mr Eds there is Casper. He also plays with Fun Buckets on Thursday nights. When he is solo he will take requests and his range and the different songs that he can do is amazing. He is somebody that I discovered a few years ago and I do my best to try and catch a few songs every week.
Roundhouse. Well as many of you know that is my hangout but not the only place that I go. You have Mike Mad Dog Adams a few times every month. He has been playing there for over 45 years. There is now way that if you go to his show that you do not have fun.Then you have the Wednesday crew of The Sellouts from Cleveland, Paradise Island 40 year veterans of the Roundhouse and Bob Gatewood and Calabash that just celebrated their 40th season at the roundhouse this week. That is why every Wednesday afternoon is like a fRiday because people come back time and again to dance and have a good time. Over the 4th we have the Killer Flamingos from Detroit. I have no idea how long they have been playing but I bet over 20 years.
Frostys has Pat Shepard many times every year. INothing better on a Saturday afternoon than a Frostys pizza and a cold frosted mug of beer and Pat Shepard. Also Rusty Blayden has been drawing a nice crowd.
Beer Barrel has 3 staples playing all summer. Kyle Smithers, Tobi Lee and the Fulcos. Kyle can play Pat Daily and many other great songs. He has been a nice addition to the island. Tobi Lee from the band Mustang Sally is probably playing over 100 shows on Put in Bay this summer. She definitely takes requests and even surprises me on some of the songs that she can do. The Fulcos are fairly new on the island but a must see. They are starting a string of 40 shows in a row.
Boathouse of course has John Salaman and the Velcro Pygmies. too completely opposite acts but you must see both.
Reel Bar has of course Bob Gatewood and Ray Fogg. They do great dinner time shows.
There are many awesome solo musicians that play here all summer but all of these are my picks of the summer. Except for the Fulcos they have been playing here a long time. Plus when you watch them they are all definitely enjoying playing for the crowds. Most of them also do not have background music playing through speakers. I hate when I see a band and I hear keyboards and there is not a keyboard on the stage. For me that is Karaoke.
