PIB Bartender Earns Top Cocktail Honors at Masters Tournament

While many island visitors know Adam Odetallah as the bartender behind the bar at the Red Moon Speakeasy inside the Park Hotel, this spring he showcased his talents on one of golf’s biggest stages.

Odettalah recently returned from Augusta, Georgia, where he worked during The Masters Tournament under Vera Stewart, the hospitality personality, cookbook author and host of the nationally recognized VeryVera Show.

Stewart oversees food and beverage operations for numerous private vacation homes that host guests attending The Masters each year. She contracts both the hospitality staff and clientele, bringing together chefs, bartenders and service professionals from across the country to provide an exceptional experience during tournament week.

As part of the annual event, Stewart organizes a friendly competition recognizing excellence in several hospitality categories, including chef, table settings, entrées and bartending. Odettalah earned Best Cocktail honors for his signature Raspberry Fizz, a creative twist on the classic gin fizz.

His award-winning cocktail features muddled raspberries and fresh mint while incorporating both lime and lemon juice, adding layers of bright citrus flavor beyond the traditional recipe, which typically uses only lemon juice. Following its success at The Masters, the Raspberry Fizz has earned a permanent place on the cocktail menu at Red Moon Speakeasy, where guests can now enjoy the award-winning drink throughout the season.

“It wasn’t necessarily meant to be a competition,” Odetallah said. “It was really an added bonus to having the privilege to work at The Masters.”

The recognition became a family achievement as Adam’s brother, Chef Sami Odetallah, also participated in the event and earned Best Entrée honors for his culinary creation, giving the brothers two of the competition’s top awards during the week-long hospitality showcase.

Adam worked the tournament’s practice rounds from April 6th-9th and the main round of events April 10th-12th, serving guests staying in the exclusive vacation homes throughout Masters week.

While his talents earned recognition on one of the country’s most prestigious sporting stages, island visitors don’t have to travel to Augusta to experience his award-winning work. Guests visiting Red Moon Speakeasy can now order the Raspberry Fizz from the bar’s permanent cocktail menu and enjoy the same drink that impressed judges during one of golf’s most celebrated weeks.
