Five Great Reasons To Come To Put-in-Bay in October!
We are on the cusp of October, and with it comes our final monthly preview blog of 2026. There won’t be a “What’s Happening in November” blog, because unfortunately, the answer is nothing! So let’s take advantage of the October we’ve got and highlight the last big events on the 2026 Put-in-Bay calendar for you to enjoy! The good news is we’ve got some great stuff to close out 2026, so it shouldn’t be hard at all for you to find a great event to make one more PIB trip happen this year!
Fall Ball, Oct. 2-3
Let’s start with the biggest event in October…ours! The Fall Ball is the end-of-season customer appreciation party for lodging partners of putinbay.com hosted at the Island Club! Two days of food, drinks, live music, raffles and auctions, dancing and more. An island tradition for a quarter of a century!
To attend the Fall Ball, you need to be staying at one of the lodging options listed below, which, coincidentally, are our top lodging picks anyway! Staying in the Island Club will get you closest to the action, as the party is at the Island Club pavilion, but any of the places below will get you into the party!

Oktoberfest, Oct. 10-11
Another beloved Put-in-Bay tradition, this one over three decades strong! DeRivera Park turns into little Munich for Ohio’s best Oktoberfest! Two days of (obviously) great German food and beer, but that’s not all . You’ll also have live polka, dancing, auctions and raffles, and more.
Despite the beer-centric nature of the event, Oktoberfest is a family friendly event, and that’s notable here as it’s probably the last big family friendly event, as the final two events on our calendar are a little more adult-oriented.
The Wake, Oct. 17
If you want to feel like a proper islander, this is the event for you. Every year, Put-in-Bay holds a “wake” for the season that was. There’s great drink specials as bars clear out their remaining liquor, and many of the island’s staff take the opportunity for a big night out to say farewell to the island for the year, or in some cases much longer as they move on to other things.
Being in October and with a funeral-type theme, there’s definitely a little Halloween overlap, so if you want to rock up in a costume, there’s no problem there! Although if that’s your main motivation, you may prefer to hold out for our next entry.

Halloween Boo Bash at the Bay, Oct. 24
If you love Halloween, Put-in-Bay has a great little trick up its sleeve. You see, Halloween is on October 31, but we’ve shut down for the season at that point, so we do Halloween a week earlier.
What does this mean for you, Halloween lover? It means you can do two Halloweens! Get double-duty out of that costume and head up the Bay for early Halloween on October 24th!
Your Last Chance To Come To The Bay In 2026
But perhaps the greatest reason, the most urgent reason, to make a trip to the Bay in October isn’t an event. It’s the fact that it’s your last chance in 2026! Businesses like bars and restaurants will slowly be closing their doors over the course of October, and island lodging will join them after the October 24th weekend. After that, Put-in-Bay transforms back into a sleepy community of a bar, a restaurant, a gas station and about 300 year-round residents.
So if you’re like us, and Put-in-Bay is a place that you love to spend time, we say you should squeeze one more trip in in 2026, especially since you can take advantage of low lodging rates all around the island. When it’s January and you’re shoveling snow off of your driveway, we know that you’ll be glad you did!
