A Happy Fourth From Downtown Dave!

So last week was all about the bands. This week will be all about a huge Birthday Party going on Saturday. Next week it will be back to regular thoughts of the week.

So America turns 250 years old Saturday. That really seems old but considering it is 2026 it is not really that old. Many accurate history books go back 1000s of years. Now a clarification the Declaration of Independence was not actually signed till August 2nd. More about that in a future Downtown Dave post. But let focus on this weekend. I really want to look at the quick history of this great country. See what I’ve got to say on the other side of the live music schedule!

My Thoughts For The Week

Before the settlers came here in the late 1600s there was already people living here. We call the American Indians. But I really do not think that they referred to themselves as American Indians. They were just a bunch of tribes living off the land. They were not governed like Europe was at the time.

We as humans have the sense of adventure so we saw an ocean and set sail not knowing what was on the other side of the ocean and they found America. Being that most of the natives were a lot further west the Europeans decided the move here to get away from the restrictions that they had back home. Now trying to govern a land that was a long way away proved to be difficult because most people that left Europe because of the lack of freedom.

Then of course there were more events that led to us declaring our Independence 250 years ago. I know that this is an old history lesson that many of us learned in the 3rd grade. But for me it is all about the long ride on the ocean to get here then the battle to gain our Independence 250 years ago.

Now I think we are the greatest country on planet earth. Now other countries might claim that title but I think that you have a great chance in the USA to carve your own path in life. So on this 250th birthday of the country we live in lets be Thankful that many generations ago one of your ancestors came here and that started the family tree that brought you into this world that we call Planet Earth and the Great Country called the United States of America.
