Put-in-Bay Prepares for Historic “Declaration 250” Celebration Aug. 1st & 2nd
A once-in-a-generation event is set to make history on South Bass Island this summer as Put-in-Bay prepares to host Declaration 250, a national celebration commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Scheduled for August 1-2, 2026, the weekend-long event will honor August 2, 1776, the date many historians recognize as the day the Declaration of Independence was formally signed by the nation’s founders. Organizers are planning what promises to be one of the largest and most significant patriotic celebrations ever held on the Lake Erie Islands.
Presented by the Lake Erie Heritage Foundation in partnership with The Perry Group, Declaration 250 will bring together history enthusiasts, patriotic organizations, performers, descendants of America’s founding families and visitors from across the country for a weekend packed with educational programs, entertainment and commemorative activities.
