Press Release: Bob Gatewood & Calabash Open Both Concert Nights For Declaration 250

PUT-IN-BAY, Ohio —July 31 and August 1, 2026 — Every great celebration begins with a hometown tradition.

When thousands gather beneath Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial for Declaration
250, the first music they hear will come from an artist whose songs have echoed across Put-in-Bay
and Lake Erie for decades.

Bob Gatewood & Calabash will open the Declaration 250 concert series before legendary rock
bands ASIA and Jefferson Starship, giving visitors from across the country a true taste of the
island’s musical heritage before two internationally acclaimed acts take the stage.

For generations, Bob Gatewood has been one of Put-in-Bay’s most recognizable entertainers. His
original music celebrates friendship, Lake Erie, boating, island life, and the spirit of the community
that has welcomed visitors for more than a century. His signature song, “Friends of the Bay,” has
become the official song of Put-in-Bay.

Throughout his career, Gatewood has performed for residents, boaters, tourists, and families who
return year after year, making his music part of their Put-in-Bay memories.

“Declaration 250 is about celebrating America, but it’s also about celebrating the communities that
have preserved our history for generations,” said David Zavagno, President of the Lake Erie
Heritage Foundation. “Before the national acts take the stage, we wanted America to experience
the authentic sound of Put-in-Bay. Bob Gatewood has represented that sound for decades.”

The Declaration 250 celebration commemorates August 2, 1776, when members of the Continental
Congress completed the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Hosted at Perry’s Victory and
International Peace Memorial, the three-day event will feature historical programs, patriotic
ceremonies, educational exhibits, family activities, and free public concerts.

Following Bob Gatewood and Calabash on Friday, audiences will enjoy ASIA, featuring their progressive rock hits.
Saturday, after Gatewood’s band, Jefferson Starship will perform their classic hits.
